Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most extraordinary wildlife destinations on the planet. Nestled in the rugged Albertine Rift mountains, this UNESCO World Heritage Site protects 331 square kilometres of some of Africa's most ancient and biodiverse tropical rainforest a dense tangle of ancient trees, vines, bamboo, and undergrowth covering steep ridges and mist-filled valleys that have sheltered life through ice ages and millennia of human history. Today Bwindi is home to approximately 459 mountain gorillas roughly half the entire global population of this critically endangered great ape. With 19 habituated gorilla families spread across four distinct trekking sectors (Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo), it offers the largest selection of gorilla families at any destination on earth. Beyond the gorillas, the forest holds over 350 bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics found nowhere else on earth, 120 mammal species, and 200 tree species, and profound cultural connections to the Batwa Forest People the original inhabitants of this ancient ecosystem. This is one of Africa's oldest forest ecosystems, estimated at over 25,000 years old and having survived multiple ice ages a living record of how long life has flourished on these ridges.

By air (recommended): fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip approximately 45 minutes by charter or scheduled flight followed by a 1.5–2 hour road transfer to the Buhoma or Ruhija sectors. For the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors, fly to Kisoro Airstrip (2 hours from Entebbe). By road from Kampala: 8–9 hours via Mbarara and Kabale on tarmac the entire way. By road from Kigali: 4–5 hours via the Cyanika border crossing (Nkuringo) or the Katuna/Kabale border (Buhoma). A 4WD vehicle is essential for the final mountain tracks approaching every sector.
