UGANDA
Uganda holds some of the least-fished productive water left in Africa, and some of its greatest primates. This journey takes both seriously rather than treating either as a sideline. You begin on Lake Victoria, casting for Nile perch and tilapia as the light goes. Then north to the Victoria Nile below Murchison, where tiger fish and perch fight in fast water beneath the falls, and on to the remote shore of Lake Albert for Semutundu and trophy perch in water that sees almost no rods at all. The second half turns to the forest: the Kazinga Channel at water level, chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge, a full day among the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha, and one unhurried hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Ten nights, six locations, one private vehicle and dedicated fishing boats with experienced guides throughout.
The Experience
Swipe
You are met in the arrivals hall and transferred the short distance to your hotel on the lake shore. Once you have settled in, head out for an evening session on Lake Victoria an easy first cast for perch and tilapia as the light goes off the water, and a chance for your guide to read how you fish before the full days begin.

Before You Go
Everything you need to know before your safari begins answered by our team of specialists.
None. The guides provide all tackle, bait and instruction, and will match the day to your level. Experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own rods and terminal tackle if they prefer.
Nile perch and tilapia on Lake Victoria; tiger fish and Nile perch on the Victoria Nile; Nile perch, tiger fish and Semutundu catfish at Lake Albert. Perch on Victoria regularly exceed a hundred pounds. As with all fishing, nothing is guaranteed.
Yes, on every session. Our boat operators apply a catch-and-release policy across all their waters, and inside Murchison Falls National Park UWA rules require it as well. A sportfishing permit for the park is arranged as part of your package.
We want to be straight with you: the Kyambura community is small and isolated, and success rates run considerably lower than at Kibale roughly a third to a half of visits result in a sighting. The gorge itself is remarkable regardless. If a chimpanzee encounter is a priority rather than a bonus, we would recommend adding a Kibale day instead, and we are happy to quote it.
A refundable deposit of $100 per rod is held by the operator before departure, against damage or loss of tackle. It is returned at the end of the session provided the gear comes back intact. Everything else boat, crew, rods, tackle, bait, drinking water and packed lunch on full days is included in your package.
Treks cross uneven forest terrain and run from thirty minutes to six hours depending on where the family has moved. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Porters are available at the trailhead for a small fee and are strongly worth taking.
More than most people expect. The gorge walls are steep and often slippery, and the tracking involves river crossings on log bridges. It is shorter than a gorilla trek but not easier underfoot.
We think so. The road from Bwindi to Kampala is nine to ten hours, and after eleven days it is a hard way to finish. A scheduled flight from Kihihi to Entebbe takes an hour and fifteen minutes and is quoted separately.
Fifteen years for both gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, strictly enforced by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. There is no minimum age for the fishing days.
The dry seasons June to September and December to February give the easiest trekking and the best game viewing. Fishing is strongest in the dry months when water levels drop and fish concentrate.
Most nationalities require a Uganda tourist visa, obtained in advance through the Uganda e-Visa portal. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry.
