TANZANIA
Tanzania is the rare country where the greatest safari on earth and one of the great beaches sit an hour's flight apart. This itinerary takes both seriously. The first half is the classic northern circuit: elephants among the baobabs at Tarangire, two nights on the Serengeti plains in the heart of big-cat country, and a descent onto the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. It is intense, early-starting and dusty, and it is meant to be. Then you fly to Zanzibar. Stone Town a UNESCO World Heritage Site of coral-rag alleys, carved doors and a complicated, layered history followed by three nights on the coast, where the tide goes out for a kilometre and comes back turquoise. It is the right way to end a safari, and almost nobody regrets adding it.

Before You Go
Everything you need to know before your safari begins answered by our team of specialists.
Because the road is well over a day and a ferry. The scheduled flight from Arusha takes an hour and fifteen minutes and is included in your package.
It is enough to genuinely rest, which is the point after six days of early starts. If you want four or five, we will quote the extra nights they are the cheapest part of this itinerary.
Zanzibar requires all visitors to hold a mandatory travel insurance policy purchased through its designated provider, paid on arrival. It is inexpensive but it is separate from your own travel insurance, which you should still hold.
It is in the Serengeti year-round; only the sector changes. December to March the herds are on the southern plains for calving; April to June they move west and north; July to October the Mara River crossings happen in the far north. We position your camp for your dates.
Serengeti is USD 82.60 per person per day and Ngorongoro USD 70.80, plus a crater descent fee of USD 295 per vehicle. Over the safari half of this itinerary that is close to USD 500 per person before a single bed. It is set by government and every operator pays the same.
June to October and December to February are driest. The long rains in April and May can be heavy on the coast, and many Zanzibar properties close for part of that window.
Most nationalities require a Tanzania visa, available on arrival or in advance online. The same visa covers Zanzibar.
