Rwanda's classic double-primate safari. Based for two full trekking days beneath the Virunga volcanoes, you track both of the range's iconic residents: the mountain gorilla, and the vivid, endangered golden monkey found nowhere on earth but these bamboo forests. An overnight in Kigali on arrival and two nights in a hand-selected lodge at the foot of the volcanoes let the itinerary flow without a single wasted hour gorillas one morning, golden monkeys the next, with afternoons free for the twin lakes, cultural village visits, or the Dian Fossey research legacy at the Ellen DeGeneres Campus. Both treks launch from the same headquarters at Kinigi, so there are no lodge changes and no long transfers between activities just two mornings on the volcano slopes from one comfortable base.

Permit & Booking Notice
The Rwanda gorilla permit is USD 1,500 per person and the golden monkey permit USD 100 per person, both issued by the Rwanda Development Board. Permits are limited daily and must be secured well in advance full payment is required at booking to confirm your date.
Rates are valid for travel through 31 December 2026 and are subject to RDB tariff revision.

Yes that is the whole design. Mountain gorillas on Day 3 and golden monkeys on Day 4, both from the same base at Kinigi, with no lodge change between them.
The gorilla trek is more demanding steeper ground, longer duration, and the more profound encounter. The golden monkey trek is gentler underfoot but photographically harder, as the troop moves fast and high in the bamboo. They complement each other well.
The gorilla permit is $1,500 per person and the golden monkey permit $100, both included in this package and both issued by the Rwanda Development Board.
The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is the world's leading centre for mountain gorilla conservation science. A visit is optional and can fill a free afternoon we are happy to arrange it.
Minimum age is 15 for the gorilla trek and 12 for golden monkeys. Treks range from thirty minutes to four hours; porters are available and recommended.
Most nationalities obtain a visa on arrival, and the East Africa Tourist Visa is accepted. A Yellow Fever certificate may be required depending on your travel history.
