Before You Go
Everything you need to know before your safari begins answered by our team of specialists.
Kigali is only four to five hours from Bwindi by road, against eight to nine from Entebbe starting here saves a full day of travel. Uganda's gorilla permit is also $800 per person, against $1,500 in Rwanda.
Very little on your part. Your driver-guide handles the vehicle documentation, COMESA insurance and all processing fees, which are included in your package. You need your passport and, for most nationalities, a Uganda visa obtained in advance online. The crossing typically takes thirty to forty-five minutes.
Yes all fuel for the entire journey is included, along with tolls, parking and border processing fees. There are no transport costs to settle en route.
The dry seasons June to August and December to February offer the best trekking conditions. Gorilla trekking runs year-round, as Bwindi is a tropical rainforest.
Sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long-sleeved shirt and trousers, a lightweight rain poncho, gardening gloves for grip, insect repellent, and a small daypack with water and snacks.
The minimum age is 15. A reasonable level of fitness is required, as treks can take two to six hours through hilly and sometimes slippery terrain. Porters are available for hire and are strongly recommended.
Uganda Wildlife Authority guidelines require a minimum of seven to ten metres. In practice, gorillas frequently come much closer. You have one full uninterrupted hour with the family.
