UGANDA
The classic Ugandan gorilla trek, and still the most direct route for travellers already in Kampala or Entebbe. Departing at first light, the journey carries you across the Equator and through the full range of the country's landscapes open savannah, Ankole cattle country, roadside markets, and finally the steep terraced slopes and misty valleys of the Kigezi highlands. It ends at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site sheltering nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, for one full, unhurried hour with a habituated family. This is an entirely Ugandan itinerary no border crossings, no second visa, and no domestic flight. All fuel, tolls and parking are included from the first morning to the last.
The Experience
Swipe
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe. The first major stop is the Equator at Kayabwe, where you can stand in both hemispheres at once and watch the famous water experiment. The road continues through the rolling hills of Mbarara, past local markets and the long-horned Ankole cattle bred here for centuries. After a traditional lunch en route, the road winds up into the breathtaking Kigezi highlands. Arrive at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening, check in to your lodge, and settle into the atmosphere of the ancient rainforest.

Before You Go
Everything you need to know before your safari begins answered by our team of specialists.
Approximately eight to nine hours each way. It is a long day, broken by the Equator stop and a lunch break, and it takes you through the full range of Uganda's landscapes. If the drive concerns you, ask us about the fly-in option.
Yes. Scheduled domestic flights run from Entebbe to Kihihi and Kisoro airstrips, reducing the journey to just over an hour each way. It is a popular upgrade for travellers short on time, quoted separately ask us and we will price it against your dates.
Many travellers do. The 4-day itinerary adds a full day at Bwindi the Batwa experience, the waterfall trail and the community walk so you are not driving out the morning after your trek. It is a meaningfully better trip for a modest difference in price.
Yes all fuel for the entire journey is included, along with tolls and parking. There are no transport costs to settle en route.
Fifteen years, strictly enforced by the Uganda Wildlife Authority for conservation and safety reasons.
Yes. Porters are available at the park headquarters for a small fee, around $20–25. They carry your daypack and provide a steady hand on the steeper sections and hiring one supports the surrounding community directly. We strongly recommend it.
Waterproof hiking boots, long-sleeved shirts and long trousers, a rain jacket, gardening gloves for grip on vegetation, insect repellent, sunscreen and a small daypack for water and snacks. A full packing list is provided on booking.
The dry seasons June to August and December to February give the most comfortable trekking. Bwindi is a tropical rainforest, so trekking runs year-round; the wetter months bring a greener forest and fewer visitors.
Most nationalities require a Uganda tourist visa, obtained in advance through the Uganda e-Visa portal. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry.
